Headmaster Headmaster Peter B. Benedict II came to The Miami Valley School in 2006 from Louisville Collegiate School where he served as head of the middle school. While there, he increased enrollment, founded a lacrosse program, expanded interims, and initiated a diversity outreach program. He also was selected as an E.E. Ford Fellow, a National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) program to identify aspiring heads.
Benedict began his life-long educational journey as the son of a headmaster at St. Edward’s School in Vero Beach, Fla. He attended high school at the Hill School in Pottstown, Pa., and double majored in English and liberal arts at Colorado State University with a minor focusing on experiential learning. He received his master’s degree in secondary education from Peabody College for Teachers at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. More recently, he participated in the Art and Craft of Principalship program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Benedict was a founding member and president of the Andrus Family Fund, a New York based foundation that supports reconciliation in communities – including the landmark settlement between the police and the city of Cincinnati, following racial tensions in that community. He currently serves on the boards of The Surdna Foundation, Joy Outdoor Education Center, and the Overfield Early Childhood Program. He and his wife, Davis, a graduate of Colorado State University and the University of Virginia, reside in Oakwood. They have two sons, Peter ’18 and Troy ’20, and two dogs. |
