Preparing for college and beyond
At The Miami Valley School we believe that every one of our graduates will be prepared for the rigors of a competitive 4-year college upon graduation. But, we don’t believe that one-size-fits-all. Our unique blend of experiential education combined with challenging core academics makes our students ready for the challenges of college and beyond. However, we also believe that personalized attention to the process rather than just the product of finding the most selective college is integral to students success.
College counseling begins in the classroom as early as 9th and 10th grade with teachers and peers providing feedback and encouragement as students take academic risks. The parent education process also begins at this time, with a parent night with the Director of College Counseling. In 9th and 10th grades, students are also given PSAT assessments and have the opportunity to meet with visiting college representatives. The college counseling process continues with academic advisors who serve as mentors helping students choose the appropriate classes, clubs, athletics, and volunteer opportunities for the right mix of challenge and success. The process culminates with individual and family meetings and weekly college counseling classes with our Director of College Counseling during the junior and senior years.
