Middle School

Grades 6 to 8

Sometime around the change of the millennium, an educational philosopher referred to the middle school years as the "Bermuda Triangle of education."

Indeed, these can be some of the most challenging years for students and parents—but we're here to help.

At MVS, we provide middle school students guidance as they transition from lower school and begin to navigate their own path. We encourage students and provide them with opportunities to explore, investigate, and discover on their own.

By the time students complete middle school, they will have taken two years of laboratory-based science, written untold numbers of papers, had the opportunity to go as far as high school honors geometry, and completed a very thorough first year of either Spanish or Mandarin.

In addition, their liberal arts education will include three years of social studies, health, art, and music. Students can also take part in jazz band and choir, as well as serve as a student representative in middle school student government.

We encourage middle school students to “make a difference” in the world around them. Students become actively involved in an area of service that is of interest to them beginning in sixth-grade geography and carrying through to their individual advisory groups.

These three years are a time of tremendous growth and change—and we promise it’s worth it. Middle school students walk away with a solid educational foundation and are well prepared for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in upper school and life’s journey beyond.
