Distinguished Alumni Award

Each year since 2004, The Miami Valley School honors a former student as its Distinguished Alumnus or Alumna. Nominations are made by members of the MVS community and are based on accomplished and self-sustaining alums who are compassionate global citizens and who show a commitment to The Miami Valley School.

Alumni Service Award

The Miami Valley School alumni contribute to the school each year through service of substantial quality and depth. Alumni support is a vital component that ensures the continuance of the MVS experience and the recognition as the region’s leader in education. Established in 2011, the Alumni Service Award highlights and celebrates unselfish service and support to the school and/or Alumni Association.

Dave Montgomery ’90
David (Dave) Montgomery graduated from MVS in 1990. Dave earned a B.A. from Miami University in 1994 and his J.D. from the university of Dayton Law School in 1998. Dave joined the law firm Pickerel, Schaeffer and Ebeling in 2000, working in the firm’s real estate and business department. He worked diligently to establish a viable and vibrant alumni connection at MVS through the creation of the MVS Alumni Association and its governing body, the Alumni Council, serving as either President or Vice President of the Council since its inception in 2005. Dave has worked on behalf of alumni to establish stronger tied with the past and present school community, creating alumni incentives and recognitions, such as the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Legacy Scholarship. He has served on various committees of the MVS Board of Trustees, including the Development Committee and Planning/Building Committee. Dave also serves on the boards of several community organizations in Dayton, where he lives with his wife and three children.

Frank E. “Pete” Zorniger III ’77
Pete Zorniger attended MVS for grades 2-12 before earning his bachelor’s degree at Miami University. His children are also MVS alumni, Drew ’07, Paige ’08, and Alex ’11. His wife, Kim, served the school as a volunteer and as director of admission. Zorniger served on the Head of School Search Committee in 2005 and the Board of Trustees and its Audit Committee from 2006 to 2009. In 2011, the Zorniger family created the Zorniger Environmental Laboratory, a facility where students actively engage in environmental studies and agriculture. Zorniger returned to the Board of Trustees in July 2012.

Matthew E. Arnovitz ’78
After seven years at MVS, Matt attended the University of Cincinnati where he studied real estate. As a member of the MVS board of trustees and chair of the facilities committee, Matt has been a blessing to the school with his background in commercial real estate and property management. He has assisted with projects ranging from the creation of the school’s master plan to the construction of the Alumni Theatre, the Outdoor Exploration Center, the Zorniger Environmental Laboratory, and upgrades in infrastructure throughout the campus. In addition, he has been involved in annual facilities repairs and replacements. Matt and Dave Montgomery ‘90 were instrumental in reinvigorating the Alumni Council within the last decade. In 2007, Matt and his brothers Scott ‘75 and Mead ‘77 established the Theodore Arnovitz Endowment for Immersion in order to provide funds for students with financial need for Immersion travel experiences. Matt and his wife Elaine are the parents of two MVS graduates, Stephen ‘05 and Michael ‘07.

Athletic Hall of Fame Award

The Miami Valley School Athletic Hall of Fame was created in 2004 to honor former MVS athletes who participated in an outstanding way in interscholastic athletics during their high school years. To be eligible, a student must have played one or more sports for MVS and must have graduated 10 or more years before the date of his or her selection. Also considered for the Hall of Fame are coaches, athletic directors, and others who have served MVS in significant ways through the athletic program.
