Hua ZhangMVS Introduces New Asian Studies Program

The Miami Valley School has introduced an Asian Studies program in its Kindergarten through 12th Grade curriculum, beginning in the fall of 2007. Students will have an opportunity to learn about the Chinese culture, the Mandarin language, and Asian customs. Read Full Story

Additionally, a new World Language Institute has been created for optional Saturday programs in Arabic and Mandarin. This first series of lessons runs from April 14th through May 19th.


2007 Immersion Update

This year’s Immersion programs included trips to Italy, Spain, Peru, and the Caribbean as well as more domestic offerings focusing on Habitat for Humanity, Caving and Climbing, Culinary Explorations, Photography and Flying. Immersion Open House was held on April 11th and students shared details of their experiences.

GittlemanDayton Philharmonic Maestro Conducts a Lesson for Lower School

MVS has developed a new relationship with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. A highlight of the program included a visit by Neal Gittleman, Maestro of the Orchestra, conducting the debut of the Kindergarten Clapping Orchestra. Read Full Story

 

Alumni Parent Event Sure To Be Delicious!

Parents of MVS Alumni will have the chance to get together and reconnect with the school as well as old friends. As part of the school's expanded outreach efforts, MVS is introducing a series of activities and special events for our "Alumni Parents". Our first event will be a tour of Ghyslain Chocolatier on May 9, 2007 including a behind-the-scenes look and, of course, some taste testing. $35 per person. RSVP by May 2. More Details

Alumni in Denver meet with Headmaster Benedict and Division Heads

Headmaster Peter Benedict, and Division Heads: Bill Glisson, Sam Wagner, and Cheryl Bellman connected with other Independent school leaders sharing ideas about new academic programs at the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) convention. During their visit, they had the chance to catch up with a few Denver area Alumni including: Thomas Elmer '84, Kristen Moss '86, and Randy Weiner '77.

 

2007 Auction "On The Cutting Edge" A Success

The nineteenth annual auction to benefit MVS was held Saturday, March 3, 2007. The evening was a wonderful success for the MVS community! The auction is a great evening and raises money to benefit the school. Overall, the evening netted nearly $200,000 for MVS faculty support and programs.

First Annual Volunteer Recognition Event to be on May 8, 2007

Each year, MVS parents and friends generously support the school by contributing their time, creativity, and talents. We will host an annual Volunteer Recognition event to recognize and thank those who help make MVS great! The event will be held on Tuesday, May 8th from 8:30am - 10:00am at Madison's Bistro in Lamplighter Square.

 

MVS Wrestler Takes State Title, Again!

Daniel Kolodzik, MVS Class 2008, competed in the Ohio State Tournament, and won the Division III State title at the 125# weight class. This was Daniel's third trip to the state tournament and his second state title. He won as a freshman in the 103# weight class. Congratulations to Daniel!


Two MVS Basketball Players in District All-Star Game

The Miami Valley School Girl's Basketball Program has had an outstanding year culminating in a record of 13-8. Seniors Laura Kissinger and Ashley Tyner were selected to compete in the District 15 All Star Game.

Coach Madden Retires

Boy's Basketball coach Joe Madden announced his retirement at the recent basketball banquet concluding the 2006-2007 season. Madden, involved in coaching Ohio basketball for nearly forty years, had been a part of The Miami Valley School staff since 1999. Athletic Director Ken Laake Jr. commented, "We are appreciative of Joe's years of service to The Miami Valley School and wish him well in retirement." Read Full Story
