College Counseling

The process of college application and selection has never been more competitive and confusing than it is for today’s students.

The MVS college counseling team works with its 100 percent college bound student body to educate every member on the details and intricacies of the college planning process. This occurs through individualized conferences, group seminars, classroom meetings, and regular communication with families concerning all aspects of this most important phase of school life.

While group sessions and guest speakers occur beginning in the freshman year, formal counseling begins in the student’s junior year. At that time, students are asked to consider their own interests, talents, and desires for higher education, and to work with their counselors to research and identify colleges that fit with their goals and aspirations. When students have identified the colleges of greatest interest to them, the process shifts to application preparation and completion. The college counselors at MVS play an active role in every phase, personally reviewing all aspects of the student’s efforts from determining colleges to which they will apply to meeting every requirement and deadline.

The goal of the college counseling team is to empower every student to take the lead in the college application process. However, this happens through a carefully organized and implemented program that begins well in advance of the senior year. From admission testing to essays and letters of recommendation, the college counseling team at MVS is proactive and available at every point through matriculation at the student’s college of choice.
