Tour de France!
From Karen Hartley and Peter Camm via email on February 27, 2006
Having a wonderful time and great experiences here! Paris was very
exciting and we crammed so much into three days. The students enjoyed
Paris and became comfortable with taking the metro. We usually split into
groups to eat; so everyone finds something to enjoy. They are open to
new foods and do not complain as we keep on walking, visiting and meeting
people. Our visit to the D- Day museum was enriched by a British veteran
who talked about his experiences landing at that time. Mont St Michel
was truly magnificent... in general our accommodations are excellent.
The bus was large and comfortable; and the driver, Fernando, pointed out
additional places of interest. Students are reporting on places of interest
as we visit...how cool to have a report on the Eiffel Tower with it lit
up behind us.
Today the students are in class at the Institute, a beautiful building
in a quiet section of Tours. It is sunny. In general the weather has been
cold, even some snow. The students seem happy with their families and
are having to adjust to speaking and listening to French! We will meet
with them this afternoon to debrief. On Wednesday we visit the chateau,
and tomorrow a candy store!
The students have proven resourceful and open...they will return with
new confidence and perspective. Les voyages forment la jeunesse, say the
French: travel educates youth.
Grosses bises à tous!
Bonjour à tous!

We are always tired here, but enjoying every moment of it! In Tours
yesterday we visited une confiserie and got to watch them make four types
of candy, then sample them: délicieux!!! Our dinners à la
,aison have been incredible, our Madame is so gracious and talks for hours
with us. She is very well read and current on any topic we wish to discuss.
Last night we had a delicious cheese and charcuterie melted using a special
machine! Pasteries have also been delicious. SALUT to all and grosses
bises from Tour! We go to Chenonceau today - my favorite castle!
