2006-07 Immersion Updates

This year’s Immersion programs included trips to Italy, Spain, Peru, and the Caribbean as well as more domestic offerings focusing on Habitat for Humanity, Caving and Climbing, Culinary Explorations, Photography and Flying. Each course lasts for four consecutive weeks, from mid-February to mid-March, was led by MVS faculty, and offered an intense opportunity for experiential learning unlike anything students experience during the regular academic year.

Students also had the opportunity to pursue independent study Immersions. Career, passion, or individual learning opportunities lie at the heart of the self-directed individualized learning project. Students create their own program and follow topics of interest not already available in the regular curriculum, or to extend work to which they may have already been introduced. The possibilities are unlimited.

The intent of the Immersion program of The Miami Valley School is to provide students an alternative approach to learning through an intensive four-week program focusing on a single elected subject area. All programs provide a concentrated, in-depth study of a subject that is not offered in the regularly scheduled classes during the year.
