Upper School Immersion Program

Experiential Learning

Immersion is a one-month experiential learning program of intensive study in a single elected subject area and is unique among both public and private schools. Immersion is required of all students enrolled in grades nine through twelve. Typically, students and teachers work together to prepare for a culminating activity at the end of the month. This is also a time when MVS students do a great deal of foreign study and travel. A sample of courses from previous Immersions include Blues and Jazz, Filmmaker and Critic, Destination America, Swamp Study (Florida and Georgia), Spanish History and Culture, and The Sound of Music (Germany and Austria). Students may also use the month for specialized internships and independent studies.
