Parent Giving

Every year, we reach out to you, our families, and ask for your philanthropic support to further enhance our school.

Last year, you responded to the call increasing parent/guardian participation to 40 percent—a double-digit increase from the year before. Your generous support has made a difference. Thank you.

The Miami Valley School continues to be the region’s educational leader. We recently matriculated 37 seniors to four-year colleges and universities all across the country, with more than 10 percent of the class attending advanced medical programs, and a quarter of its students honored by the National Merit Program. This year we opened with 448 students, including 79 academically strong and selectively chosen new students.

The school’s success is built upon enhanced programs and excellent teaching, both directly supported by the Annual Fund. A few examples of what these funds helped support from this
past year:

  • Lower school students participated in the SPARK program, which connects students to Dayton Philharmonic musicians and culminates in trips to the orchestra;
  • All students benefitted from the robust implementation of the Mandarin language program, adding another teacher and additional lower school and advanced classes;
  • Bill Glisson, middle school head, and Yolanda Lyon, science teacher, each visited one of our sister schools in China and Chile—experiences that are already enriching our community;
  • We appointed a new library/media specialist to serve our entire community and renovated the Lange Library.

As we approach our 50th anniversary, I challenge the parent/guardian community to raise its level of participation to historic levels. Please join me in showing our students and teachers that we support their achievements and dedication. Participate in this year’s Annual Fund—every gift counts in a meaningful way.

Sincerely,

Peter B. Benedict II
Headmaster
