The Miami Valley School has been ranked as the top academic high school in the Dayton area and 11th in the state of Ohio, according to a study by Gerber Analytics.

The November 2009 study identifies the best schools in the state based on each school’s performance on the 10th grade Ohio Graduation Test (OGT). It is the only report that examines Ohio’s public, private and charter schools together.

The study analyzed the scores of 1,005 Ohio schools on the March 2009 OGT. A calculated performance index score was used to rank the schools.

According to the data, MVS performed among the top ten schools in the state in four categories and three subject areas—reading, writing and math.

The OGT is the high school graduation examination given to sophomores all across Ohio. It fulfills the state achievement test requirement under the federal No Child Left Behind Act, which requires annual testing in reading and mathematics. It is made of five parts—reading, mathematics, writing, science and social studies.
