5 Important Things for Opening Day!

Road ClosedHere are five important things to know for the first day of school, Monday, August 20, 2012!

#1 Mad River Construction

For families traveling from the south (Centerville and Springboro), Mad River Road, between Whipp Road and Rahn Road, is closed due to road construction. Please plan on extra time when traveling to school and consider using alternate routes through Brittany Hills or from Whipp to Paddington Road.

#2 Arrival Times

It is vitally important that all families adhere to the arrival times defined in the Opening Day Schedule. In order to help new families acclimate to the school, unless they are Upper School Student Council or Student Ambassadors, returning families and students should NOT arrive before their appointed time!

  • New Early Childhood Families, 8:00 a.m.
  • Returning Early Childhood Families, 8:30 a.m.
  • New Kindergarten Families, 8:00 a.m.
  • Returning Kindergarten Families, 8:30 a.m.
  • New Lower School Families, 9:15 a.m.
  • Returning Lower School Students, 9:45 a.m.
  • New Middle School Families, 8:30 a.m.
  • Returning Middle School Students, 9:45 a.m.
  • New Upper School Families, 8:30 a.m.
  • Returning Upper School Students, 9:45 a.m.

#3 Cook-out Lunch

On Monday, lunch will be a cook-out of burgers, cheeseburgers, garden burgers, hot dogs, veggie dogs, chips, apples, watermelon, lemonade, and Baskin Robbins rainbow sherbet. All the “fixins” are included, and there is no charge for Monday’s lunch. For new families, lunch accounts for the remainder of the year can be set up during orientation.

#4 Pick-up Times and Car-line

Car-line on the first day of school is often hectic. Please allot extra time in your schedule for drop-off (returning families), parking (new families), and pick-up. If you are picking up in middle or upper school, consider arriving around 3:30 p.m. to provide time for lower school families to exit campus. Both early childhood and kindergarten will dismiss early on the first day of school beginning at 10:00 a.m. (EC) and 10:15 a.m. (K). Extended day is available for grades 1-12 on Opening Day.

#5 Bus Transportation

There is no a.m. bus transportation available on Monday, August 20; however, Centerville, Miamisburg, Beavercreek, and the Hillel (Oakwood, Vandalia, north Dayton) buses will pick-up in the afternoon for drop-offs. If you reside in one of the districts listed above and have NOT been contacted by your district to arrange for transportation, please travel by private automobile. Our offices can assist by contacting the district to ensure that you are on their rosters for future transit.

Our hallways, classrooms, and work lack purpose without our students, our MVS Rams. We welcome everyone to the 2012-2013 academic year, and please email Trey Adams in the admission office at trey.adams@mvschool.comĀ or contact your division head if you have any questions or concerns.
