Branching Out: A Week of Nature!

Instructor: Kathleen Bechert, MVS Early Childhood School

Throughout the week we will let nature be our teacher. The children will have an opportunity to go on a hike and collect stones to create alphabet rocks and make a unique name craft. They will make colorful mandalas with items from nature. We will create some homemade birdseed ornaments to support the feathered friends in our area. Go on a scavenger hunt and find items common to forest areas like birds, puddles, grasses, logs, and more. Gather items from nature and use them to create different “brush strokes” in your paintings. Roll pine cones, brush pine needles or stamp rocks across the page or canvas. You’ll be surprised at the unique art you can create. We will connect with the outdoors as we use our senses to explore all of nature’s splendor!

Summer of Color

Join us in the Summer of Color camp where we will dive deep in learning about primary and secondary colors through crafts and activities! Have you ever wondered how people who are blind read and write? This is your chance to learn as we will have a colorLESS day to focus on the blind where we’ll even write in braille! We will end our camp with a rainbow day celebrating all colors through DIY projects and art! We will also take a field trip to AR Workshop. The cost of this camp includes the fees for the cost of materials and field trips.

Athletes Unite

Interested in dipping your toe into many different sports? This week of camp will offer opportunities to learn a little bit about a lot of sports, from tennis to soccer and volleyball to bowling. We’ll fine tune some basic skills, but most importantly have fun with other campers and unite in our joy of simply being an athlete!

Tale Spinners Theatre Camp

Instructor: Jeff Payne, MVS Early Childhood/Middle Schools

Put your own spin on a classic story and bring it to life on stage! TaleSpinners campers work together to write an original play based on an already existing tale. Campers will also choose costumes, make props and set pieces, and perform their dazzling creation on the final day. Come join us for a week of fun, performance and creativity!

Fantastic Fairy Tales

Dragons, knights, queens, kings and fairy lights – join us for a week of fun as we explore the world of fantasy and fairytales. We will read some of our favorite stories, use our imaginations to create our own fairytale, and make magic each day.

Water World Wonders

Come cool off with us in the wonderful world of water! We will play water games, go swimming and explore the properties of water. We will also incorporate how we can conserve and save water because it is so important to the Earth!

We’re On A Roll!

What can you think of that rolls?! A bowling ball? Maybe even a rolling pin?! Join us in this camp where we’ll go on various field trips exploring different things that roll – and the reason behind how they work! A few things to look forward to in this camp include mini golfing, bowling, and even baking! The cost of this camp includes the fees for the cost of materials and field trips.

Garden Crafting

Let’s decorate and make a garden! We will be designing our garden, make a fairy garden, and create fun items to help decorate our garden.

Martial Arts Empowerment!

Confidence! Focus! Self Control! And Empowerment through Martial Arts! Join us as we explore different ways martial arts are presented. Modern to classical, we will explore pieces of unique martial arts each day. We will see how to use these skills to grow stronger and have us, and those around us, feel a little more safe in the world!

Flight Fantastic

Instructor: Michael Noyola, MVS Parent

Learning the fundamentals of flight, including aeronautics, aerodynamics and aircraft. We will build and fly gliders made from foam board, using a curriculum provided by FliteTest. We will visit the Air Force Museum, and maybe have a visit from a local aircraft hobbyist and YouTuber Peter Sripol.

Supporting the Greater Good: A Week of Community Service

Instructor: Mike Boyer, MVS Director of Middle School

Do you enjoy helping others? Do you need/want to fulfill a year’s worth of required service hours? If you answered “yes” to either of these questions then “Supporting the Greater Good, a week of Community Service” is the ideal camp for you. Students will participate in service projects at a different place each day and, over the course of the week, complete 25-30 hours of service work (over a year’s worth of the community service requirement for MVS). Once registered, participating students will help determine the types of projects that will be completed over the course of the week. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity! Since this camp benefits the students earning community service hours, the price of the camp has been reduced.

Enchanted Fairies and Mythical Creatures

Join us this summer for a magical experience like no other! your child will delight in spending a week enjoying what they love best! It’s all about fairies, unicorns, dragons and gnomes. Build a home fit for a fairy using only items from nature. Use sticks, leaves, flowers, pine cones, rocks, and other natural materials to construct a sturdy little home in the woods. We will indulge in a foaming dragon science experiment and create some adorable gnome puppets. This is the place where memories and magic are made!

Space Camp

Journey to outer space as with us, as we embark on an exploration journey into the galaxy. We will visit the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, learn what the astronauts eat and do in space, and explore the solar system. It is sure to be a stellar week of intergalactic fun!

Lego Land Adventures

Join Lego Land Adventures for an immersive experience in all things legos! We will plan, build, create and play with Legos all week. In addition we will take a trip to the new LegoLand in Columbus to explore how to engineer vehicles and explore movement. Transportation

Each day will be dedicated to a specific vehicle, such as airplanes, cars, and trains! We will learn more about how each work, and even visit museums about them! Our one big project that will be worked on throughout the week will be the egg drop challenge. If you think you can design a parachute and secure an egg so it can safely drop without cracking, then this camp is for you!

Davis Magic Academy

Davis Magic Academy uses the Discover Magic curriculum. It is designed to teach 7–13-year-olds important Life Skills that have been lost in our technologically-based world! In an age of virtual experiences, teaching a child to explore the physical world has never been more essential and more of a challenge! Our Discover Magic classes educate young minds using original content and custom magic props that your child will keep! This course is even designed to help all types of learners by providing live teaching instruction, written instruction, hands-on activities, peer-to-peer interaction, video instruction, fun practice time and even an online video vault that you can access at home with a Secret Code Word that we will REVEAL in each class! This is a short week but sure to capture that little explorer in your future engineer.

Pass, Set, Hit! This camp will offer 3 days of volleyball fun! Campers of any skill level are welcomed to join the group and fine tune those skills or just learn the basics of volleyball. It is sure to be a great way to support a passion for volleyball!

Mighty Hoops Basketball Camp

This basketball camp will give kids a chance to practice and learn the skills that are essential to enjoy playing the game. From beginners to experienced players, the camp will develop and fine tune your child’s talents. We will have team and individual competitions to work on various skills along with position-specific instruction. Trophies will be awarded on the final day and a fun team championship game.

We will be using everyday household items and recycled materials to build some incredible structures. Have you ever thought about the various helpers in our community? You may think of police officers and firefighters, but what about farmers and service dogs? Join us in this Community Helpers camp to learn more about how these helpers keep us safe and provide for us! We will also get a behind the scenes look! This camp will give students a deeper appreciation and understanding for our community helpers, and we will also have a dedicated writing time as we write thank you letters to each of our helpers that we explore.

Cooking Creations

World Building: An Immersive Art Experience

Instructors: Lauren Hoying-Post & Matt Hoying

In this course, students will create an immersive art environment inspired by the experiential museums of Meow Wolf, which feature maximalist art environments for patrons to explore. Get ready to experiment with mediums such as modeling clay, paper mache, wood, paint, and more! This class will challenge campers to inspire creativity through art, and as a group, we’ll build a 3D interactive art experience. At the end of the week, our art exhibit will open for a small gallery reception with music and refresehments. Students will get a glimpse into the life and studio practices of a real visual artist.

In this intensive three-day camp, rising senior students will get a jumpstart on their college applications by tackling the Common Application activities list and personal essay, among other things. Led by Director of College Counseling Lindsey Roeth, students will be guided as they brainstorm, write, and edit these components of their applications. At the end of the camp, students will have an opportunity to get feedback on their personal essay from a college admissions officer. This camp will run from 9-12PM and will include lunch on the last day.

Let’s Go Outside!

Want to spend the week outside just playing and exploring? Then join us. We will be playing traditional games like kickball, hopscotch, tag, sharks and minnows, and statue. We will make cardboard forts, spend a day learning about bike safety and have our own bike rodeo, play mini-golf, go to a local park to play in the sand and get wet in sprinklers, and explore a creek and try to catch minnows and frogs.

Art of Minecraft

In this class we will learn about the fundamentals of art and design as they apply to the modular, block-filled world of Minecraft. Much like the popular online game, studying art allows for the open-ended freedom to explore and find meaning anywhere. We will observe the nature of the cube and other 3-dimensional objects, we’ll learn about the mathematics behind the art, and we’ll study other artists and creatives that have shaped the field.

Triple Threat Theatre Intensive

If you love to act, sing and dance, it’s time to showcase all your skills on the MVS stage. Campers will build technique through classical and contemporary text work, learn new skills in engaging vocal, movement, and acting workshops and increase performance abilities with intentional studio time. Then, take your place in the spotlight and share your talents with family and friends in a culminating Theater Maker’s Cabaret.
