Welcome to MVS

Original. Innovative. Dynamic.

Most schools would choose the word academic to describe themselves. Then, they would spend time illustrating how they create safe learning environments. And, finally, they might finish with a statement about test scores. Well, we have all of that. You wouldn’t be visiting and exploring more if you didn’t know that The Miami Valley School is the academic leader in the region. From an early childhood program emphasizing empowerment to a lower school curriculum of confidence and critical thinking and ultimately to middle and upper schools that take the students outside their comfort zones to contextualize their thoughts, perceptions, and understandings of the world, we create citizens, servant-leaders, and scholars. Yes, they stand alone in their standardized testing, academic achievement, and college placement. But, the coolest part of this community is that we are much, much more.

Have you ever been taught art by a woman who is a professional sky diver? Does your Latin teacher spend his weekends in an alternative rock band? How many books has your middle school English teacher published? Have you ever seen your lower school principal drive a Harley? The people here define The Miami Valley School experience. It begins with a group of dynamic, creative, and enthusiastic educators who came to MVS seeking something different. They wanted a community that embraced their talents, their skills, and their passions for teaching children. From that foundation, we welcome a student body of individuals–of different cultures, of different ethnicities, of different neighborhoods. They come together in our Outdoor Exploration Center, our Alumni Blackbox Theater, our Japanese Garden, around our Weeping Rock, and on our squash courts and lacrosse fields to realize a common goal–an incomparable educational experience.

The final layers are our parents and alumni. Supported by their moms and dads in roles as small business owners, medical doctors, public school teachers, store clerks, ministers and Rabbis, military service men and women, real estate agents, volunteers, and perpetual motivators, we have produced entrepreneurs, CEOs, Broadway actors, Congressmen, Silicon Valley technology developers, movie stars, Princeton soccer players, liberal arts professors, public defenders, organic farmers, and pediatricians. And, while the product is important, we relish the process that inspires students of promise to become self-sustaining learners and compassionate global citizens.

So, take some time to investigate, and if you can see yourself as a parent or student as part of a unique learning adventure that values a community of courage, confidence, and compassion, contact us. We’ll share what we know but more importantly, listen to what you need. In the meantime, explore.

Carpe diem,
