Welcome from the Head of School
It is my honor to be the 7th leader of MVS. I think you’ll feel as I did when I first arrived in the fall of 2018 – that MVS feels like home. Here, in our supportive community your child will learn and grow. Here, your child will be known, supported, and challenged to be the best version of themselves.
When considering MVS, you will learn that our approach to education is unique. As an independent school that lives by its mission and core values, MVS is supported by a community passionate about supporting those same ideas and philosophies. While we maintain high-academic standards, supported by the top ACT and SAT scores in the area, we recognize that students learn best by doing, experiencing, and creating. Whether your child is in the early childhood school, lower school, middle school or upper school, MVS provides the essential tools for your student to become a self-sustaining learner and compassionate global citizen.
We are proud of what The Miami Valley School has accomplished in its 54 year history. The founders built this school on three key premises: small classes, individualized attention, and experiential learning. These remain our priority as we fine-tune our vision every year on how we can continue to educate our students for college and real world experiences. By perusing the pages of this site, I know you will feel, as I did, the energy and excitement that is happening on our campus, in our classrooms, and even in our greenhouse. Here you will find a place where you and your student belong.
Why choose The Miami Valley School?
The Immersion Method: This method is based on the knowledge that the best learning is rooted in direct experience, which leads to engagement and discovery of passion. The great part is this often results in deeper learning by making mistakes, taking risks, testing new ideas. This is the process through which we encourage students to build resilience as they learn and achieve.
Pioneering Academics: MVS believes in continuing to push the envelope by incorporating new and innovative methods into its educational philosophies and necessary skills which are needed for entering the global community.
Social and Emotional Learning: By creating a safe and supportive environment, our students learn to show empathy for others, respect differences, and manage conflict. The SEL mindset and practices are woven into everything we do.
Individualized College Counseling: In a post-industrial world, education is changing rapidly. We are paying attention not only to how MVS will prepare students for college and to meet the demands of the job market, but also to how we can help students find the college with the best fit for them. 100% of our seniors matriculate to the nation’s top colleges.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Our standard is inclusion of diversity in all of its forms. Through our Diversity Task-Force, we encourage thoughtful conversations and reflection about issues pertaining to equity and justice.
I encourage you to visit our admissions page to schedule a tour to experience The Miami Valley School education for yourself. All of us look forward to welcoming you to campus!
