The Miami Valley School Quiz Bowl team continues to receive national recognition, pulling into the number one spot this week in a national ranking of academic challenge teams.
Miami Valley, which took home a first-place trophy last year at the NAQT Small School National Championship Tournament, is currently sitting in the top spot of Groger Ranks, the premier national high school ranking organization.
Groger Ranks uses a statistical formula devised by its members to rank teams based on past performances at high school Quiz Bowl tournaments around the nation.
At the beginning of the season, Miami Valley A (the school’s top team) began the season ranked No. 3 in the pre-season poll, based on a poll that included players and coaches around the country. In October, the team moved to the No. 2 spot, and just recently took over top honors with a No. 1 ranking.
So far this season, the team has excelled, finishing first at the 2019 Glasgow Scottie, Miami Valley School Fall Kickoff Tournament, Beavercreek Fall Invitational and Michigan State Harvard Fall Tournament.
“It’s amazing to witness the dedication and hard work this team is putting in and it’s resulting in an incredible season,” said Tyler Benedict, a member of The Miami Valley School Faculty and coach of the team.
Benedict said he hopes the team to finish strong, surpassing even last year’s accomplishments, which included No. 6 in the country in the Varsity division of the National History Bowl, No. 14 at the PACE National Scholastic Championship, and No. 31 at the NAQT High School National Championship Tournament on top of its win in the NAQT Small School National Championship Tournament’s Open Division.
